In an effort to provide our young athletes and their parents with the information necessary to increase their skills this summer, a Conceptual Standards Basketball Program has been designed and is shared in the link below.

We believe that all coaches will agree that it is important that individual talents and skills are worked on and crafted during the off-season, so when it comes to the season, the focus can be on the team and how each individual fits into the team mold.

With that said, we have been given a skill development standard by grade level.  3rd grade has specific skills to master, 4th grade builds on the skills mastered at the 3rd grade level and adds new skills, etc.  Our goal is to have volunteers in the gym with each age group working on and demonstrating the skills for that age group during the summer skills sessions.  As a parent, if you want to attend the first skills session to get an understanding of how you can help your son or daughter, we welcome that.  Additionally, YouTube is a great tool to research and watch video demonstration of skills.  We will also give each player a copy of the skills sheet so they can continue to work on the skills throughout the summer, and it is also attached to this document.

Please understand that this is a process to build from the ground up, so if you have a 5th grader make sure that they can perform the skills from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade levels before proceeding to the 5th grade skills.  We want to see kids become confident in their performance, and not go through the motions or get frustrated by their development by jumping ahead in the process.  We encourage parents to get involved with their kids as they work the skills, be a passing partner, or rebounder.  Looking back on the great teams at Cuba City over the years, they all had one major thing in common, parents that were involved with their son or daughter from grade school through high school.

We have revamped our skills sessions this summer.  While focusing on skills specific to age groups, we will mix boys and girls into the same groups.  The goal of only doing four sessions is to help demonstrate at the first session and provide the kids with the knowledge so that they can go home and work on this with you on their own time We will then bring the kids back three additional times throughout the summer to see the progress made, provide additional instruction, and move them on to more advanced skills as they progress.
